About: HorizontalRings & Me

The first question people asks, when I give my websites address, is, "Why HorizontalRings?"
The first reason is - I wanted to have a website name that suggested that it is both personal and official. I did not like the idea of having my name (Gaurav) or nick (Dexter) as for my the site, and probably both are in use!!

Secondly i wanted to keep a name that suggested something.
Transforming ring
Above Rings suggest, what HorizontalRings mean. Here all the images are of the same Ring, but each and every ring is different, because it is being looked upon from different viewpoints. The Last ring here is the HorizontalRing. What these rings show is how we look at our problems.

Generally we look upon our problems as the first left most ring, the problems appears really big and complicated.  The idea is to change our perspective of looking at the problem, so if you revolve the ring horizontally and look at it at eye level, the ring becomes a simple straight line (right-most ring). Our problems in life are also similar, as soon as you start looking at them from a different perspective, they will also become as simple as a straight line.

About this website, design and development.
All the contents on this website, i.e., the design, images, coding etc has been done using all free software. I am using Slackware as my operating system. For most of the graphics I have used GIMP.

About Me
Hmmm... I need some time to think on this.

Gnu Linux Section:
I started using the GnuLinux system in the beginning of this millennium, i.e. 2000, and at the same time got associated with PLUG the Pune Gnu/Linux Users Group. After getting to know better the Philosophy behind the Free Software, the free software system has become the central idea of most of the work I do.

The GnuLinux section contains the work I have done and do for the Free s/w promotion. I would be putting small articles and tutorials in this section which would be helpful to newbies.

I like working with newbie's and I still consider myself a newbie ;-)

One more important point that I always follow as a practice is, if I have to deliever a lecture or conduct a seminar for the GnuLinux systems, I always start with the free software philosophy, since other-wise, the GnuLinux system will be no more than another GUI/UI for people.

What's Cooking Section:
The "What's Cooking" section is basically divided into two parts, Technical and Actual Cooking.

The Technical section consists of electronic, technical, mechanical projects, which may require some technical skills and some sound knowledge of electronics and handling tools like screwdrivers, soldering gun, pliers and mulitimeter. Others are some general ideas which can be really usefull in daily life.

The section Brewing contains ideas and projects still in planning and development stage or which are still to be tested and implemented yet. Once the project is working it will shift to one of the above sections.

The Actual Cooking side is dedicated to of course Food, This sections contains some of the stuff that I make (yes of course cooking is one of my hobbies), i.e. there recepies. Keep looking out for what I may be making next.
